Style tip? T-Strap shoes were popularized in the 1920s and 1930s, and they’re still tempting us today. Because the strap is so high up on the foot, they can visually truncate the leg, making your legs look (slightly) shorter than they are. But if you’re game, there’s a t-strap shoe for every occasion, from a casual picnic in the park to a glamourous evening out on the town.

Style tip? Headbands are all the rage, and you can find some pretty nifty styles at great prices. The only downside is that an uncomfortable (read: too tight) headband can give you a headache. Check out our Q&A about How to Wear a Headband for headband tips and tricks…and where to find a comfortable one.

We asked: Are Leggings In or Out?
You said: In…and Out. You were divided 50-50 on Leggings.
Style tip?
While the 80s t-shirt and leggings look is (or should be, IMHO) Out, leggings can be tastefully worn layered under skirts and dresses. Sure helps to beat the cold, especially if you’re spending any amount of time outdoors. In any case, leggings are all over the Fall 2008 runways…so they’re not going anywhere soon.
Next question: Teal, a gorgeous jewel tone, is showing up all over the runways at New York Fashion Week. Would you wear teal? Cast your

Style tip? Half sleeves help to camouflage heavy arms–and can make your upper body look longer and leaner.

Style tip? The head-to-toe monochromatic look of the jumpsuit visually elongates the body, making you look taller.

Style tip?
This jewel tone looks great on fair skin tones and dark skin tones alike. What colors should you pair teal with? Try navy or green for a thoroughly cool look, or warm up the teal with brown (as seen at BCBG).

Style tip?
Shiny fabrics tend to visually enlarge the figure, so wear accordingly. Runway models (and those with slender figures) can get away with allover shine, but the rest of us should restrict shine to a single part of our outfits. If you love your legs, for example, you can draw attention towards them with a shiny skirt.
If you do dare to wear a shiny dress, though, it doesn’t hurt to try a tummy tucker underneath. Tummy tuckers, like the ones made by Spanx, smooth out any figure bumps and blemishes and prevent them from being spotlighted by the shine.

Style tip? For this menswear-as-womenswear look, try one piece at a time for best results. Go with the ruffled tuxedo shirt, the vest, or the menswear trousers. Just not all three at once.
For women with a small bust, the tuxedo ruffles will do wonders to visually maximize your bustline.

It’s that time of year again: New York Fashion Week. As usual, we’ll be covering Fashion Week straight from the tents at Bryant Park. But this time around, we’ll be doing something a little different. Instead of focusing on our trademark show reviews, we’ll be concentrating on trend analysis. We’ll still do some show reviews, but we’re going to be looking at Fashion Week from a meta level to bring you the trend information you need for next Fall and Winter.
While we gear up to start our Fall 2008 fashion coverage, check out our Top 5 Most Wearable Trends and our Top 5 Least Wearable Trends for Spring 2008.
Missing your fashion answer fix? We’ll be returning to our regularly scheduled programming, providing answers
to your style questions, bright and early on Monday, February 11 (just in time for Valentine’s Day). We’re diligently working though a very long list of excellent questions (which we’re answering in the order they came in), so thanks in advance for your patience!

Q: I am petite (5′) and I always dress demurely, which is really important to me. Is the tunic over jeans look an acceptable outfit for a person with a small frame? Is it too overwhelming, and if it is, are there any other alternatives?
A: Your fashion challenge is to dress demurely while not overwhelming your small frame. The tunic over jeans look can work, but take care in choosing the tunic. Because you’re petite, extra volume has the tendency to add unflattering bulk. So the ideal tunic for you would be slightly more form fitting than the average tunic.
Other demurely fashionable tops include a chunky knit cardigan, a form fitting turtleneck sweater (extra style points for detailing like oversized buttons), or a sleeved, graphic patterned button-down blouse.
At the end of the day, style is about adapting fashion to your own tastes and desires. If you wear whatever makes you feel the best, you can’t go wrong.
Have a great tip about how to dress modestly and stylishly?
