(Faux) Shearling Lined Parka

fur-lined-parka_111410

Look beyond color and texture and create a look based on silhouette. We’re loving the dramatic oversized look of this faux shearling lined parka, which can serve as the star of your silhouette based look. If you live in a temperate climate, you can pair it with shorts, as seen on the model. But for colder climates, we’d recommend switching out the shorts for a close fitting pant or pair of leggings to maintain that gorgeous big-over-small silhouette.

You Said: Yes to Fingerless Gloves

omiru-poll-result-fingerless-gloves_111410

leather-driver-fingerless-perforated-gloves_111410We asked: Would you wear Fingerless Gloves?

You said:  Yes to Fingerless Gloves, with a 62-38 split in votes.

Style tip? What we love about these fingerless gloves is the drama.  They’re long on form and a bit short on function - but keeping your hands warm isn’t really the point of these gloves.  We love pairing these edgy gloves with uber feminine pieces - a lacy blouse or a ladylike dress takes on a whole new sartorial meaning with the addition of these gloves.  Or if you prefer not to mix your fashion references, you can go all out and pair them with a moto jacket and denim.

Next question: Camel colored coats are the the topper du jour, but these coats are more classic than trend. But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear the camel coat?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

How to Beat a Cloudy Day? Layer Color into your Look.

Pictured: Wool Cashmere Jersey Mockneck Sweater | $98 at J Crew, The New Crewneck | $16.50 at Gap, Sun Faded Stanton Pants in Urban Slim Fit | $69.50 at J Crew, Green Plaid Woven Scarf | $24 at Topman, and Mister Man Oxfords | $255 at Kenneth Cole.

Just because the sky is grey doesn’t mean that your entire outfit need be as well.  Add a bit of color to your look to make the day look just a little bit brighter.  Here’s how to get the look of color on a cloudy day:

1. This look is built on a foundation of color: a rich purple tee and a pair of greyed blue trouser pants.
2. Upon this foundation, we added the requisite neutrals - a heathered grey pullover sweater and a plaid scarf (for visual texture).
3. Finishing off the look is a pair of creamy brown oxfords, the perfect offset to the greyed blue of the trouser pants.

You Said: No to Midi Skirts

omiru-poll-result-midi-skirt_110710

sheer-embroidered-midi-skirt_110710We asked: Would you wear Midi Skirts?

You said:  No to Midi Skirts, with a superclose 51-49 split in votes.

Style tip? Skirt lengths are trending downward this Fall- with midi and maxi length skirts gaining in popularity.  Midi length skirts, which hit at mid-calf, are somewhat unflattering, as they visually cut your legs in an awkward way - and can make you look shorter.  Petite women, we advise you to steer clear of these midi length skirts and opt for a more flattering knee-length.  For those of you who would like to try the midi skirt, two tips: (1) Pair your skirt with heels for some extra leg length, and (2) Try layering tops of different length (as does the model in the photo) for a more visually interesting overall look.  With this skirt, however, we’d recommend wearing a slip underneath.

Next question: Fingerless gloves are more for show than a necessity, but they sure do make a statement. But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear fingerless gloves?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

You Said: No to Neckties for Women

omiru-poll-result-tie_103110

asos-jersey-tie_103110We asked: Ladies, would you wear a Necktie?

You said:  No to Neckties, with a 59-41 split in votes.

Style tip? Though the majority of you voted against neckties for women, a significant minority (41%) were open to co-opting this traditionally masculine accessory.  An easy way of trying on this trend?  A skinny black necktie, a la garconne, worn with a crisp white shirt and a creamy camel coat.  Finish off the look with a pair of roomy wool trousers and a pair of killer heels.  Another option?  Try a grey jersey tie, a nod to the sweatshirt/sweatpant trend that swept stores this summer.  Or do as the men do and use your tie to add a bit of pattern to your look - the season’s 70s inspired tartan plaids feel very au courant.

Next question: Midi Length Skirts, so named because they hit at mid-calf, are completely on trend, as per the Fall/Winter 2010 runway shows.  But they’re also a somewhat difficult silhouette to pull off, given that they visually cut your leg at mid-calf.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear midi length skirts?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Games by Firelight Top

games-by-firelight-top_102710

Autumn style is all about layering - sweaters, jackets, scarves all find their place. But autumn layers need not all be heavy. In fact, we love the juxtaposition of a lightweight, gauzy top against a heavy sweater or jacket. This loosely fitting, half lace top will do the trick - just remember to slip on an extra tank underneath.

Extra bonus? This top works perfectly for Spring - so you’ll get double mileage from it.

$64.99  at ModCloth.
