How do you prepare for all of this uncertainty? Stock your wardrobe with jackets that will take you through the awkward transitional months and into spring. The Parka

How to wear the parka? The beauty of the parka is the silhouette it creates. Wear it over something slim cut. We recommend pairing your parka with a slouchy top and a pair of leggings or skinny jeans for a daytime casual look. For maximum versatility and figure flattery, look for a parka with a waist that you can cinch. The cinched waist over the skinny leg and heels is super chic. The Blazer

How to wear the blazer? The key to wearing the blazer is to pair it with something that’s unusual. Everyone can pair a blazer with a tailored shirt - that’s not new. But not nearly as many people will be pairing their blazer with a sequinned top.

The trenchcoat is a piece to invest in, as it will anchor your jacket wardrobe in the classics. For a first trench, go with something standard - a khaki or black version. But if you have your foundations covered, we love the idea of a trench in a more unusual fabric, like this chambray coat.
The Moto Jacket

How to wear the moto jacket? What we love about moto jackets is that they add boyishness to a feminine wardrobe. Moto jackets are tough, and they don’t take any BS. To find a proper pairing for a jacket with such a hard edge, you’ll want to go to the other end of the spectrum. We love pairing masculine moto jackets with very feminine pieces, like floaty tops and dresses. Alternatively, pairing your moto jacket with a cozy tee, dark jeans, and military boots will give you a chic tomboy look.

You said: No to Winter Shorts, with a 66% to 34% vote.
Style tip? Wearing shorts during winter sounds like a seasonally dyslexic concept, but paired with the right elements, they can actually be very chic. The key is to pair the shorts with leggings or tights so as to protect your legs from the cold. Think this only works in temperate climates? You can pull off Winter Shorts even in chilly climates. Just ask Hannah who says, "I live in Michigan and I’ve pulled off winter shorts even in December! I wore thick leggings and knee-length boots, and I wear a coat that goes down to mid-thigh. As long as you don’t have to go outside for too long it’s just fine."

Style tip? Prints are the spice of fashion - the fun pieces that can breathe life into your wardrobe. The beauty of prints is that they can really change up your look, adding color and visual interest to very simple silhouettes. Case in point? Proenza Schouler’s blue and green printed boatneck swing coat, which would have a very 1960s feel were it not for the electrifying print. We also took note of Thakoon’s use of prints on multiple fabric types - look at how the animal print pattern on the top is echoed in the skirt. But you don’t have to go too matchy-matchy with prints. Do as Peter Som does and pair two different prints in the same outfit.

Style tip? Styling tip for Fall (and for Spring)? Pair your blazer over your favorite dress. For day, you can pair a boyfriend blazer over your printed summer dress to continue wearing it into the Fall season. But you can wear this trend right into evening, pairing a tuxedo jacket with a gorgeous evening gown, as at Phillip Lim 3.1. Or play with layering by pairing a longer blazer over a shorter blazer over a fabulous dress, as at Diane von Furstenberg. Don’t wait till fall to wear this trend - we’re all about blazers over dresses for Spring, Summer, and beyond.

Style tip? Fashion’s continuing obsession with skinny jeans is just the first step towards a bodycon (aka body conscious) silhouette. Bodycon dresses were huge for Fall 2009, and they’re continuing to ride the trend wave in 2010. This bodycon silhouette is epitomized in Herve Leger’s skintight dresses, pictured middle. But you don’t have to go for that sheer, skintight look - which, frankly, is hard to pull off if you’re not shaped like a model. We prefer dresses with knotted, ruched, or draped detailing (as at Cushnie et Ochs), as they’re a bit more forgiving.

Style tip? What cold weather accessory do you need to add instant chic to your outfit? The glove. Fall 2010’s runways saw a versatile variety of gloves, both short and long. How to integrate gloves into your cold weather wardrobe? Try long, above-the-elbow length gloves with a floor length gown for glamour. Knit fingerless gloves for a bit of sporty action. Or even puffer gloves, juxtaposed against something feminine, to protect you from the cold winter.

Style tip? Leather was huge on the runways of Fall 2010 in all kinds of incarnations. Along with the usual leather jackets and motorcycle-inspired gear, we saw the rise of the leather dress. To tone down the hardness of the leather dress, designers decided to soften the look with cutouts. How to get the look of cutouts? The traditional cutout (as seen at Herve Leger) removes strategic sections of the garment in slivers. But we also loved seeing cutouts as a texture. The cutouts on the Cushnie et Ochs tunic and the Diane von Furstenberg dress made us see this garment detail in a whole new light.

Style tip? Fall 2009’s emphasis on the shoulder continues into Fall 2010. But it’s not the same old shoulder for 2010. What first arose as a throwback to the 1980s, the strong shoulder has evolved past the plain jane shoulderpads into something more sophisticated - and decidedly more feminine. Try a poufy shawl, as at Marc Jacobs, to provide a womanly emphasis on the shoulderline. Or do as Derek Lam does, and draw emphasis to the shoulder with tailored colorblocking. Not your cup of tea? Then emphasize your shoulderline with interesting detailing - such as the oversized piping at Yigal Azrouel. How do you wear the strong shoulder? Boldly and proudly. There’s just no other way.
