Omiru Poll Results: Capes and Capelets are both In and Out

Omiru Poll Result: Capes and Capelets are In and Out

Omiru Poll Results: Capes and Capelets are both In and OutWe asked: Are Capes and Capelets In or Out?

You said:We’re completely divided on this issue.  37% vote In, 39% vote Out, and the remaining 24% voted On the Way Out.  Paradoxically, capes and capelets appear to be both In and Out.

Omiru’s take:
Capes and capelets add a bit of drama to evening ensembles, and they can take a daytime getup from okay to outstanding.  However, we feel that the strong hesitation against wearing them stems from their presence in the shadow of their formerly popular cousin, the Poncho.  While the Poncho was wildly accepted for a couple of seasons, it fell from grace, and the fashion fallout from wearing the item as the trend waned was equally large.  Omiru says: forget the poncho, and for those who are so inclined, embrace the capelet, if only for its layering potential.  An added bonus?  If worn over a near monochromatic outfit (as pictured), capelets tend to visually shorten the torso and elongate the legs, making you look taller!

Next Question:
Here at Omiru, we’re all about fashion and function, which explains our love of the Dresses with Pockets trend.  But what do you
think?  Tell us, are Dresses with Pockets In, or are they Out?  Cast your

Omiru Poll Results: Kimono Sleeves are On the Way Out

Omiru Poll Result: Kimono Sleeves are On the Way Out

Ya Ya Snap Kimono CardiganWe asked: Are Kimono Sleeves In or Out?

You said: Kimono sleeves are past their moment on the spotlight.  58% think this trend is either Out (21%) or On the Way Out (37%).  On the other side, a slight minority, 42%, believe Kimono sleeves are In.

Omiru’s take:
We appreciate that today’s kimono sleeves expand beyond their Asian roots to embrace thoroughly modern styles.  But despite their ubiquitous presence on the Spring 2007 runways, kimono sleeves don’t seem to be exceptionally popular with the Omiru crowd.  Really, we could go either way on this trend, but we do offer up the following caution: choose styles with low to moderate volume.

Next Question:
The perfect addition to an evening ensemble, capes and capelets have graced the runways for the last two seasons.  But what do you
think?  Tell us, are Capes and Capelets In, or are they Out?  Cast your
vote on the sidebar!

Omiru’s Spring 2007 Fashion Trend Roundup

Spring 2007 is all about pieces–and about continuing, not departing from, the big trend from Fall 2006: volume.  Bubble silhouettes, trapeze shapes, and puff sleeves all graced the runway.  Neutral colors continue their run as well as designers combine shades of black, white, and grey with accent colors from royal blue to fire engine red.

Omiru’s Top 5 Spring 2007 Trends from New York Fashion Week

Neutrals
For yet another season, white is the color du jour.  Muted shades and neutral colors dominated the runways from the majors to the indies.

Detailing such as ruffles, ruching, and pintucking added volume to silhouettes in a modest way.

A nod to Christian Dior’s 1958 Trapeze Line, the silhouette was seen in tops, dresses, and outerwear.

Carnivale of Couture: Favorite Spring 2007 Fashion Trends

Looks like we’re all still recovering from Fashion Week–I only received one response to my Carnivale question:

What’s your favorite trend from the Spring 2007 runway?

Pleats at Costello TagliapietraAli from Papierblog responded with a thoughtful post full of eye candy about Pleating, which "can give just the right amount of swing to a skirt, flair to a silhoutte, or definition to a bodice."  Gorgeous examples of pleating were shown from the runways of Michon Schur, Dragana Ognjenovic, Jason Wu, and Costello Tagliapietra (pictured, right, courtesy of Papierblog).

Derek Lam Dress with Pocket
As for us, our fave Fashion Week trend is Dresses with Pockets.  We’re crushing on the Dresses with Pockets for their inherent utility (Why tote around a purse when you don’t have to?) and the beautiful constructions we’ve been seeing this season.  Pictured at left is our favorite Dress with Pockets from the Spring 2007 shows, designed by Derek Lam
(courtesy of New York Magazine).

Omiru Poll Results: Menswear as Womenswear is In!

Omiru Poll Result: Menswear as womenswear is In!

Omiru Poll Result: Menswear as Womenswear is InWe asked: Is Menswear as Womenswear In or Out?

You said: It’s In.  58% are all over this trend, while only 24% think it’s Out.  The remaining 18% believe it’s On the Way Out.

Omiru’s take: Perfect for work, menswear inspired separates like vests, tailored shirts, ties, and wide leg trousers are a welcome addition to our closets.  These classic shapes are easily adapted for womenswear with the addition of accessories like clutches, wide belts, and fedoras.

Next Question: The big trend story for Spring 2007 is Volume, Volume, Volume.  Sleeves, in particular, are larger than life with kimono styles, which have sleeves cut in the same piece of fabric as the rest of the garment.  But what do you
think?  Tell us, are Kimono Sleeves In, or are they Out?  Cast your
vote on the sidebar!

Omiru Poll Results: Wrap Dresses are IN!

Omiru Poll Result: Wrap Dresses are IN!

Omiru Poll Result: Wrap Dresses are IN!We asked: Are Wrap Dresses In or Out?

You said:
They’re In!  A full 82% are enamored of the wrap dress.  Only 4% consider them Out, and a small minority (14%) believe they’re on the way out.

Omiru’s take:
We heart Wrap Dresses too.  And in this season of the dress, we can’t think of any style that feels more classic…and fresh, all at the same time.  The beauty of the Wrap Dress is its versatility–it can glide from day to evening if you swap out your day accessories for ones with more shine.

Next Question: We’ve been seeing structured suits, vests, and other masculine items parading around as womenswear for a number of months.  But what do you think?  Tell us, is Menswear as Womenswear In, or is it Out?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!
