Omiru Poll Result: Hip Length Blazers are In…and Out

Omiru Poll Result: Hip Length Blazers are In and Out

Theory Rory BlazerWe asked:Are Long Hip Length Blazers In or Out?

You said:  In…and Out. 49% of you are all for the long blazer, but 36% voted it Out and the remaining 15% voted it On the Way Out.

Omiru’s take: Seems that the Long Hip-Length Blazer inspires strong opinions in either direction–and rightly so. For some, it’s figure flattering, but for others, it’s just the opposite. Style tip?  If you’re short-waisted (e.g. long legs, short torso), the Hip-Length Blazer will be flattering on your body, as it’ll help visually balance out your top and bottom. However, if you’re long-waisted (e.g. short legs, long torso), the long blazer isn’t going to do you any favors. Skip it and try the cropped blazer instead.

Omiru Poll Result: Jumpsuits are Out!

Omiru Poll Result: Jumpsuits are Out

Linen Jumpsuit at Forever 21We asked:Are Jumpsuits In or Out?

You said:  Out! 74% of you voted this questionable trend Out.

Omiru’s take: We’re 100% with you on this one. Jumpsuits aren’t the most flattering look, even on a model’s body.  Style tip?  In a word, don’t. This trend will pass, but the pictures of you in a jumpsuit will live on.

Omiru Poll Result: Mustard Yellow is IN!

Omiru Poll Result: Mustard Yellow is IN

See by Chloe Mustard Yellow Jersey DressWe asked: Is Mustard Yellow In or Out?

You said:  With 60% of the vote for it, Mustard Yellow is IN.

Omiru’s take: While bright yellow is great for summer days, mustard yellow will shine this Fall.  Style tip?  Mustard yellow is a great way to punch up a black outfit–but we also recommend pairing the yellow hue with navy blue.  We love the drama of a full-on mustard yellow dress (sleeves give you extra style points), but if you’re feeling color-shy, feel free to try out the color on a handbag or a pair of shoes.

Omiru Poll Result: Bohemian Fashion is Out

Omiru Poll Result: Bohemian Fashion is Out

Retro Knit TubeWe asked: Is Bohemian Fashion In or Out?

You said:  With 69% of the vote against it, Bohemian Fashion is Out.

Omiru’s take: While the loose, carefree feel of bohemian fashion seems like a fine idea to us in theory, in practice, this perennial warm weather trend just doesn’t look as good as it should.  Style tip?  If you love bohemian fashion, wear it in moderation.  Pair your hippie-chic tunic with a structured pair of pants.  Or wear your flowy dress with a sophisticated handbag and shoes.  Oh, and buy it on the cheap–this is a fleeting trend, at best.

Omiru Poll Result: Polka Dots are On the Way Out

Omiru Poll Result: Polka Dots are On the Way Out

Calvin Klein Swiss Dot DressWe asked: Are Polka Dots In or Out?

You said:  With 53% of the vote against them, Polka Dots are On the Way Out.

Omiru’s take: We like the playful feel of polka-dotted styles, but with the variety of geometric prints available out there, we’re buying up more sophisticated, retro-inspired prints.  Style tip?  Polka dots are a great way to add a bit of fun to a serious outfit.  Try mixing styles–such as a flirty polka dot top under a military-inspired jacket.  Or for a more refined look, try monochromatic polka dots (e.g. bright yellow on mustard).

Omiru Poll Result: Clutch Handbags are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Clutch Handbags are IN!

Issac Mizrahi Clutch Handbag in Tan/WhiteWe asked: Are Clutch Handbags In or Out?

You said:  With 85% of the vote, Clutch Handbags are most definitely IN.

Omiru’s take: Clutch handbags are the perfect way to add a touch of refinement to casual summer styles, and they’re equally fetching as a counterpart to tailored fall looks.  We’re pleased that you love them as much as we do.  Style tip?  Need both hands?  Look for clutch handbags with wrist straps.

Next Question: We love Geometric Prints as a wardrobe pick-me-up for both Summer and Fall.

Omiru Poll Result: Electric Blue is IN!

Omiru Poll Result: Electric Blue is IN!

Electric Blue Flutter Sleeve Dress by Velvet TorchWe asked: Is Electric Blue In or Out?

You said:  With 67% of the vote, Electric Blue is most definitely IN.

Omiru’s take: We love bright colors–especially for summer, and particularly for this season.  What’s special about Electric Blue is it’s nearly universally flattering.  On dark skin tones, electric blue really pops.  And on fairer skin tones, the color adds life to your complexion.  Style tip?  With a color as bold as this, keep your outfits simple.  Try electric blue as a solid colored dress–or buy a simple top in this bold color.

Next Question: With oversized handbags still dominating the accessories scene, we’re pleased to see that small Clutch Handbags are gaining in popularity. But what do

Omiru Poll Result: Maxi Dresses are (Barely) In

Omiru Poll Result: Maxi Dresses are Barely In

BCBGirls \'Brianna\' Knit Maxi Dress We asked: Are Maxi Dresses In or Out?

You said:  With 52% of the vote, Maxi Dresses are (barely) In.

Omiru’s take: We’re not loving these questionably flattering floor-length dresses–they only really look right on the uber-tall, and it amuses us that they’re the complete opposite of another hot trend right now: minidresses.  Style tip?  Should you try the Maxi Dress, keep in mind that this trend could be over in a heartbeat.  Choose your price point accordingly.

Omiru Poll Result: Black and White Fashion is In!

Black and White Striped Tunic at Forever 21We asked: Is Black and White In or Out?

You said:  Black and White fashion is In with 83% of the vote.

Omiru’s take: No big surprise here.  What’s not to love about black and white?  It’s classic and nearly universally flattering.   Style tip?  Mix up plain black and white with a slice of color for a fresh summer look.

Next Question: Yet another 1960s trend, Maxi (e.g. Floor Length) dresses are hitting the sales floor just in time for summer. But what do

Omiru Poll Result: Square Jackets are In!

Diane von Furstenberg Laurus Jacquard JacketWe asked: Are Square Jackets In or Out?

You said:  Square Jackets are In with 62% of the vote.

Omiru’s take: We love the look of the Square Jacket–it’s so 1960s without feeling overly anachronistic.   Style tip?  This summer, wear your Square Jacket with a skirt–or even shorts, like the model pictured at left.  But don’t put the jacket away at the end of summer.  Layer it over a series of knit tops–and a fitted pair of jeans come fall.
