Omiru Poll Result: The Color White is IN!

Omiru Poll Result: The Color White is IN!

Stadium Cloth Trench Coat

We asked: Is The Color White In or Out?

You said:  Overwhelmingly in, with 79% of the popular vote.

Omiru’s take: It may not be the most slimming color, but The Color White is winning fans this season with its fresh, clean look.  We’re hooked too.

Style tip?  Go bold with white, and make it the dominant color in your outfit.  Pair it with a splash of color for interest.  And don’t forget to carry Shout! Wipes to help clean up stains.  Want more on White?  Here’s some more tips on How to Wear White.

Next question: We’ve always been a bit weary of plaid (the 90s grunge rocker look is still too fresh in our minds), but recently, we’ve changed our tune.  Case in Point: John’s article about How to Wear Flannel Stylishly and Trisha’s How to Wear a Plaid Shirt Without Looking Like a Man.    Tell us, is Plaid In,

Omiru Poll Result: Swing Coats are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Swing Jackets are In!

Swing Coat with Pleated Hem

We asked: Are Swing Coats In or Out?

You said:  Overwhelmingly in, with 61% of the popular vote.

Omiru’s take: We love the look of swing coats, with their simple lines, oversized buttons, and fun, swingy shape.

Style tip?  Our favorite look pairs the swing coat over a slim bottom (skinny jeans, tailored trousers, or even a pencil skirt).  An essential look in Figure Flattery 101.

Next question: The Color Black is figure flattering, but its opposite, The Color White, is so fresh and clean. Tell us, is The Color White In,

Omiru Poll Result: Cigarette Pants are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Skinny Cigarette Pants are In

J Brand Cigarette Stretch Leg Jean

We asked: Are Skinny Cigarette Pants In or Out?

You said:  In, with the majority (52%) of the popular vote.

Omiru’s take: Though Wide Legged Trousers are making waves this Fall, Skinny Cigarette Pants are also making a splash.  While they’re tough to wear if you don’t have long, lean legs, they do look smashing paired with a more voluminous top for a big-over-small look.

Style tip?
For the longest, leanest look, pair cigarette pants with a tall heel in a similar color.  We love grey cigarette pants paired with a checkered grey heel.

Next question: You’re into Skinny Cigarette Pants–but are you also into pairing them with voluminous Swing Coats?  Tell us, are Swing Coats In,
or are they Out? Cast your

Omiru Poll Result: Full Skirts are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Full Skirts are In!

Silk Taffeta Parlour Skirt

We asked: Are Full Skirts In or Out?

You said:  In, with 62% of the popular vote.

Omiru’s take: Take that, tailored skirts!  Full skirts are back in full force, perhaps as Fall’s more figure flattering continuation of Summer’s fling with volume (remember those tent and amorphous babydoll dresses?).

Style tip?
For the most flattering look, try a fitted top with a full skirt.  Aim for this oh-so-elegant Small-over-Big silhouette.

Next question: You’re loving the full skirts–but do you also love pants with volume?  Or are you into skinny cigarette pants?  Tell us, are Skinny Cigarette Pants In,

Omiru Poll Result: Pleated Trousers are Out!

Omiru Poll Result: Pleated Pants are Out

 Nordstrom Pleated Gabardine Wool Trousers

We asked: Are Pleated Trousers In or Out?

You said:  Out, with 54% of the vote casting the ballot towards Out and another 11% voting them On the Way Out.

Omiru’s take: Pleated Pants get a bad rep for their unflattering silhouette–they tend to visually add 5 pounds with their extra folds of fabric around the waistline.  For this reason, flat front pants are gaining in popularity for both men and women.

Style tip?  For women, if you do decide to don the pleated pants, make them part of a menswear-as-womenswear look.  As for men, pleated pants do actually have their place.  Traditional Italian suits feature pleated pants–and if you’re going for that look, pleats are actually preferred.

Next question: After seasons of tailored skirts and body-hugging pencil skirts, Full Skirts are making a fashion comeback.  But what
do you think?  Tell us, is The Full Skirt In,
or is it Out? Cast your

Omiru Poll Result: The Puffy Coat is Out!

Omiru Poll Result: The Puffy Coat is Out!

Add Down Belted Puffer Jacket

We asked: Are Puffy Coats In or Out?

You said:  Out.  Only 32% voted The Puffy Coat In, with the remaining 68% voting it Out or On the Way Out.

Omiru’s take: While The Puffy Coat is a cold-weather staple, it’s not necessarily the most figure flattering look.  Structured wool or cashmere coats provide a more sophisticated look for tackling the cold–but the nylon puffer jacket is a more playful, sporty alternative.

Style tip?  The key to wearing the Puffy Jacket is wearing one that’s puffy–but not Too puffy.  If the jacket makes you look like the Michelin man, put it back on the rack.

Next question: With all of the menswear-as-womenswear inspired outfits, Pleated Trousers came back into the fashion mix.  But what
do you think about Pleated Trousers?  Tell us, are Pleated Trousers In,
or are they Out? Cast your

Omiru Poll Results: Hats are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Hats are In!

All Black Cloche Hat by Boring Sidney

We asked: Are Hats In or Out?

You said:  Overwhelmingly in, with 81% of the vote.

Omiru’s take: Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe advises wearing "high impact" accessories to glam up outfits, whether you’re going out for a cup of coffee or for a night on the town.  So skip the skimpy jewelry–and go for eye-catching, daring accessories like Hats and Gloves.  Ladylike–and perfect for covering up during the chilly fall months.

Style tip?  Hats are a great way to express your style personality.  So–we dare you to be daring.

Next question: While wool coats are customary for the winter months, nylon puffer coats are making a statement in stores this fall.  But what
do you think about these puffy coats?  Tell us, is The Puffy Coat In,
or are they Out? Cast your
vote on the sidebar!

Omiru Poll Result: Gloves are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Gloves are In!

 Nordstrom Long Cashmere Gloves

We asked: Are Gloves In or Out?

You said:  Overwhelmingly in, with 87% of the vote.

Omiru’s take: Gloves are the perfect way to accessorize a fall outfit–we love pairing gloves with a half sleeve or 3/4 sleeve jacket.  But whether they’re wrist-length or elbow-length, gloves add a dash of sophistication to any outfit.  Added bonus?  Gloves protect your arms from the chilly fall air.

Style tip?  You can play it safe with neutral colored gloves in white, black, or grey.  But gloves are a great way to experiment with color.  Go on, be daring–and try purple, orange, or green!

Next question: Ria wrote in because she found some gorgeous wool hats and feather flapper type hats, but she’s wondering whether or not they’re in.  What do you think?  Tell us, are Hats In,
or are they Out? Cast your

Omiru Poll Result: The Color Orange is IN!

Omiru Poll Result: Orange is In!

 Ambition Long Sleeve Trench Coat

We asked: Is The Color Orange In or Out?

You said:  In, with 66% of the vote.

Omiru’s take: Red is so often in the limelight, but its cousin Orange doesn’t get the same love.  Orange is a great way to spice up a fall wardrobe–for both men and women.  If you’re daring, try an overcoat or a dress in Orange.  But if you’re just looking to experiment, start small with a scarf, pair of gloves, or even a handbag.

Style tip?  Orange really pops when juxtaposed against the greys of the season, but it also pairs excellently with shades of blue.

Next question: Gloves, both long and short, are all over the runways…and the fashion glossies.  But
what do you think?  Tell us, are Gloves In,
or are they Out? Cast your

Omiru Poll Result: Chunky Knits are In!

Omiru Poll Result: Chunky Knits are In!

Helena Cardigan Sweater

We asked: Are Chunky Knits In or Out?

You said:  In, hands down, with 77% of the vote.

Omiru’s take: Last year was all about thin, drapey knits–great for early Fall, but not so wonderful for Winter.  But with this season’s emphasis on textured, chunky knits, we can stay warm all Winter.

Style tip?  Chunky knits are a great way to add texture to a daytime outfit–but they also add bulk.  If you’re curvy, you’d be better off wearing finer knits as sweaters–but you can jump on the chunky knit bandwagon with a chunky knit scarf or cap.

Next question: The color Orange shone all over the Spring 2008 runways of Fashion Week.  But
what do you think?  Tell us, is Orange In,
or is it Out? Cast your
