Style tip?  Bold graphic prints are making their way down the runway - not only on shirts, but also on dramatic full-length dresses.  Keep your silhouettes clean to let the graphics shine.

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Red and Pink

Red and Pink at Tuleh, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Oscar de la Renta.

Style tip?  Red and pink don’t traditionally go together, but they’re appearing together on the runways for Spring.  Our favorite red and pink combination pairs a bright fire engine red with a bold electric pink, a la Marc by Marc Jacobs and Tuleh.

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Booties

Booties at Miss Sixty, DKNY, and Costello Tagliapietra.

Style tip?  Booties are tough to wear, as they visually shorten your legs - so they’re best worn by women with long, lean legs. If you dare to wear booties, pair them with a short skirt or shorts to visually extend your legs as much as possible.

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Brightly Colored Handbags

Brightly Colored Handbags at Miss Sixty, Herve Leger, and Diane von Furstenberg.

Style tip?  Whoever said that clothes make the (wo)man forgot about the power of accessories.  There’s nothing quite like a brightly colored handbag to punch up an outfit, regardless of how simple or embellished that outfit is.  Try fire engine red, like the Miss Sixty handbag, or opt for an elegant orange (a la Diane von Furstenberg).

What do you think?  Would you carry a brightly colored handbag?  If so, what color?  Share your thoughts in the comments!

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Ruffles

Ruffles at Karen Walker, Reyes, and Preen.

Style tip?  We’re loving the structured volume that well placed ruffles can create.  They’re great at adding visual volume where you want it.  No hips?  Try tiers of tiny ruffles, a la Preen.  Small bust?  Wear ruffles at your chest to camouflage.  Problems solved!

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Floral Prints

Floral Prints at Tuleh, Tracy Reese, and Peter Som.

Style tip?  Not all florals are drawn alike–so pick the type that fits your personality.   Are you breezy and laid back?  Try a flowing floral print, like the Tuleh dress.  Uptown elegant?  Pick a garden party floral fit for hanging at a museum.  Modern chic?  Reach for a measured graphic print, like the dress at Peter Som.

Style tip?
Can we talk about how great blood orange is?  It’s such a lively, fresh color that can wake up even the cloudiest of days.  Wear any of these blood orange cocktail dresses, and you’re sure to turn heads.

Flared trenchcoats at Erin Fetherston, DKNY, and Tracy Reese.

Style tip?  Fall’s Trenchcoats are structured and form fitting.  Spring’s version of this classic coat is lighter and more feminine, with oversized collars, a cinched waist, and a flared skirt.

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Cutouts

Cutouts at ThreeAsFour, James Coviello, and Alexander Wang.

Style tip?
Look at the shape the cutouts make - are they sleek and streamlined (ThreeAsFour, pictured left), architectural (James Coviello, pictured center), or are they organic and haphazard (Alexander Wang, pictured right)?  If you can find cutouts that fit your personality, they can add such character to your outfit!

Spring 2009 Fashion Week Trend: Peach

Peach at Erin Fetherston, Costello Tagliapietra, and Alexander Wang.

Style tip?
Contrast the softness of the peach color with a pair of edgy shoes, as seen at Costello Tagliapietra and Alexander Wang.  Like all pastel colors, the darker your skin tone, the better the color looks on you.  Beware - if you have super fair skin, peach probably isn’t going to be your color.
