You Said: Yes to Liberty Prints

omiru-poll-result-liberty-prints_032810

liberty-london-target-billboard-bag_032810We asked: Would you wear Liberty Prints?

You said:  Yes to Liberty Prints, with a 62% to 38% vote.

Style tip? Liberty Prints, the effervescent prints popularized by Liberty of London, are extending far past the British Isles this season.  These garden party florals make a statement, so make sure that they’re the centerpiece of your outfit.  Wear them on classic shapes and simple silhouettes, and unless you’re feeling daring, pair them with solids instead of other patterns.  Where to buy Liberty Prints stateside?  Look no further than cheap chic emporium Target for their Liberty of London collection.

Next question: Neon Brights lit up the Spring 2010 runways.  Eye-catching and energizing, they could just be the antidote to Spring’s pastel peaches and pinks.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear neon brights?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Trend Alert: Peaches and Pinks

peaches-and-pink_032410

After months of hard edges, military boots, and black, black, and more black, we have frothy, light as air pastels for spring.  So now that the air is warming up, you can easily trade in your rocker chic blacks for something a bit more feminine.  These springy peaches and pinks come with pretty embellishments - sequins, pleats, ruffles, and gorgeous draping.  But if you’re not ready to give up the hard edge completely, you can always combine the best of both worlds with a studded peach handbag.

1. Sequined Starland Tank | $138 at J Crew

2. Flounce Flower Cardigan | $22.80 at Forever 21

3. Spot Frill Front Vest | $55 at Topshop

4. Raw Edge Tier Skirt | $24.80 at Forever 21

5. Leather Weave Stud Detail Duffle Bag | $128.21 at ASOS

You Said: Yes to Parkas

omiru-poll-result-parka_032110

caprice-jacket_032110We asked: Would you wear the Parka?

You said:  Yes to Parkas, with a 59% to 41% vote.

Style tip? Thanks to this season’s emphasis on utilitarian fashion, parkas stand front and center on the outerwear trend lineup.  The beauty of the parka is its versatility.  For a gamine look, you can pair your parka with a sailor tee and trouser pants.  For a sophisticated-yet-feminine look, slip on a sundress and finish it off with a parka jacket (especially this cinched number from J Crew).  Or even pair your parka with an oversized top, leggings, and ankle boots.

Next question: Liberty Prints, the small, garden-party-esque florals popularized by London’s Liberty & Co., are finding their way across the Atlantic this season, with collaborations with Nike, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and even Target.   But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear Liberty Prints?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

what-to-wear-march-men_031610

Days are getting longer (thanks, Daylight Savings Time), the air is getting warmer, and we’re eagerly anticipating Spring.  While the weather may not be Spring-tastic in all areas of the country yet, it’s definitely time to start - or continue - your Spring wardrobe update.  What do we recommend that you add to your Spring 2010 wardrobe?  Patterned shirts, a denim utility shirt, a light cotton jacket, pieces with military influence, and because the weather can still be chilly, a cable knit sweater jacket.  But don’t forget your accessories - update with a pair of old school grey sneakers, driving mocs, a canvas weekend tote, and a dandy-inspired fedora.

1. Nailhead Oxford Utility Shirt | $98 at J Crew

2. Cotton Utility Jacket | $130 at Banana Republic

3. White and Red Check Shirt | $50 at Topman

You Said: Yes to Statement Necklaces

omiru-poll-result-statement-necklaces_031410

crystal-corona-necklace_031410We asked: Would you wear Statement Necklaces?

You said:  An overwhelming Yes to Statement Necklaces, with a 82% to 18% vote.

Style tip? What we love about statement necklaces is that they’re a chic, simple way to draw attention right up to your face.  There’s something about a statement necklace that frames your face in just the right way.  So when you wear a statement necklace, you want to keep your top simple.  No frills, beading, or ruffles - you want your top to be sans embellishment to be the blank canvas on which to spotlight your statement necklace.

Next question: Parkas are this season’s casual jacket alternative to the standard trench.  They’re a bit rough-and-tumble, but that’s part of their charm.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear the parka?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

You Said: No to Winter Shorts

omiru-poll-result-winter-shorts_030610

mini-houndstooth-extended-short_030610We asked: Would you wear Winter Shorts?

You said:  No to Winter Shorts, with a 66% to 34% vote.

Style tip? Wearing shorts during winter sounds like a seasonally dyslexic concept, but paired with the right elements, they can actually be very chic.  The key is to pair the shorts with leggings or tights so as to protect your legs from the cold.  Think this only works in temperate climates?  You can pull off Winter Shorts even in chilly climates. Just ask Hannah who says, "I live in Michigan and I’ve pulled off winter shorts even in December! I wore thick leggings and knee-length boots, and I wear a coat that goes down to mid-thigh.  As long as you don’t have to go outside for too long it’s just fine."

Next question: Ribbon tied necklaces with big, bold beads and jewels are certainly eye catching.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear the Statement Necklace?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Fall 2010 Fashion Week Trend: Colorful Prints

print_022610

Colorful Prints at Thakoon, Proenza Schouler, and Peter Som.

Style tip?  Prints are the spice of fashion - the fun pieces that can breathe life into your wardrobe.  The beauty of prints is that they can really change up your look, adding color and visual interest to very simple silhouettes.  Case in point?  Proenza Schouler’s blue and green printed boatneck swing coat, which would have a very 1960s feel were it not for the electrifying print.  We also took note of Thakoon’s use of prints on multiple fabric types - look at how the animal print pattern on the top is echoed in the skirt.  But you don’t have to go too matchy-matchy with prints.  Do as Peter Som does and pair two different prints in the same outfit.

Fall 2010 Fashion Week Trend: Blazer over Dress

Blazers over Dresses at Erin Fetherston, Diane von Furstenberg, and Phillip Lim 3.1.

Style tip?  Styling tip for Fall (and for Spring)?  Pair your blazer over your favorite dress.  For day, you can pair a boyfriend blazer over your printed summer dress to continue wearing it into the Fall season.  But you can wear this trend right into evening, pairing a tuxedo jacket with a gorgeous evening gown, as at Phillip Lim 3.1.  Or play with layering by pairing a longer blazer over a shorter blazer over a fabulous dress, as at Diane von Furstenberg.  Don’t wait till fall to wear this trend - we’re all about blazers over dresses for Spring, Summer, and beyond.

Fall 2010 Fashion Week Trend: Bodycon Silhouette

bodycon_022710
Bodycon Silhouette at Cushnie et Ochs, Herve Leger, and Yigal Azrouel.

Style tip?  Fashion’s continuing obsession with skinny jeans is just the first step towards a bodycon (aka body conscious) silhouette.  Bodycon dresses were huge for Fall 2009, and they’re continuing to ride the trend wave in 2010.  This bodycon silhouette is epitomized in Herve Leger’s skintight dresses, pictured middle.  But you don’t have to go for that sheer, skintight look - which, frankly, is hard to pull off if you’re not shaped like a model.  We prefer dresses with knotted, ruched, or draped detailing (as at Cushnie et Ochs), as they’re a bit more forgiving.

What do you think?  How would you wear the bodycon silhouette?  Share your thoughts in the comments!
