We asked: Are Kimono Sleeves In or Out?
You said: Kimono sleeves are past their moment on the spotlight. 58% think this trend is either Out (21%) or On the Way Out (37%). On the other side, a slight minority, 42%, believe Kimono sleeves are In.
Omiru’s take: We appreciate that today’s kimono sleeves expand beyond their Asian roots to embrace thoroughly modern styles. But despite their ubiquitous presence on the Spring 2007 runways, kimono sleeves don’t seem to be exceptionally popular with the Omiru crowd. Really, we could go either way on this trend, but we do offer up the following caution: choose styles with low to moderate volume.

The perfect addition to an evening ensemble, capes and capelets have graced the runways for the last two seasons. But what do you
think? Tell us, are Capes and Capelets In, or are they Out? Cast your

Fashiontribes’ Lesley Scott is officially on our hotlist this Friday (regular Friday Fashion Hotlists will be returning next week, for all of you FFH fans). Her What the Bloggers are Saying Fashion Week roundup post is, by far, the most comprehensive source of fashion information written by us online publishers. Lesley’s roundup covers Trendspotting, Fashion Week Dish & Detrius, and, of course, Show Reviews, which are helpfully categorized alphabetically.
Bravo, Lesley!

Spring 2007 is all about pieces–and about continuing, not departing from, the big trend from Fall 2006: volume. Bubble silhouettes, trapeze shapes, and puff sleeves all graced the runway. Neutral colors continue their run as well as designers combine shades of black, white, and grey with accent colors from royal blue to fire engine red.

Neutrals
For yet another season, white is the color du jour. Muted shades and neutral colors dominated the runways from the majors to the indies.

Sleeveless Ruffled Bib Top | $64 at Banana Republic
Controlled Volume
Detailing such as ruffles, ruching, and pintucking added volume to silhouettes in a modest way.

Lane Dress | $118 at Anthropologie
Bubble Silhouette
Wear with caution, as the bubble shape doesn’t flatter large hips.

Trapeze Silhouette
A nod to Christian Dior’s 1958 Trapeze Line, the silhouette was seen in tops, dresses, and outerwear.

Shorts
From Daisy Dukes to knee-length styles, shorts are making another comeback just in time for Spring. Cuffed styles are especially popular.

Looks like we’re all still recovering from Fashion Week–I only received one response to my Carnivale question:
What’s your favorite trend from the Spring 2007 runway?
Ali from Papierblog responded with a thoughtful post full of eye candy about Pleating, which "can give just the right amount of swing to a skirt, flair to a silhoutte, or definition to a bodice." Gorgeous examples of pleating were shown from the runways of Michon Schur, Dragana Ognjenovic, Jason Wu, and Costello Tagliapietra (pictured, right, courtesy of Papierblog).

As for us, our fave Fashion Week trend is Dresses with Pockets. We’re crushing on the Dresses with Pockets for their inherent utility (Why tote around a purse when you don’t have to?) and the beautiful constructions we’ve been seeing this season. Pictured at left is our favorite Dress with Pockets from the Spring 2007 shows, designed by Derek Lam (courtesy of New York Magazine).

We asked: Is Menswear as Womenswear In or Out?
You said: It’s In. 58% are all over this trend, while only 24% think it’s Out. The remaining 18% believe it’s On the Way Out.
Omiru’s take: Perfect for work, menswear inspired separates like vests, tailored shirts, ties, and wide leg trousers are a welcome addition to our closets. These classic shapes are easily adapted for womenswear with the addition of accessories like clutches, wide belts, and fedoras.
Next Question: The big trend story for Spring 2007 is Volume, Volume, Volume. Sleeves, in particular, are larger than life with kimono styles, which have sleeves cut in the same piece of fabric as the rest of the garment. But what do you
think? Tell us, are Kimono Sleeves In, or are they Out? Cast your
vote on the sidebar!

We asked: Are Wrap Dresses In or Out?
You said:
They’re In! A full 82% are enamored of the wrap dress. Only 4% consider them Out, and a small minority (14%) believe they’re on the way out.
Omiru’s take:
We heart Wrap Dresses too. And in this season of the dress, we can’t think of any style that feels more classic…and fresh, all at the same time. The beauty of the Wrap Dress is its versatility–it can glide from day to evening if you swap out your day accessories for ones with more shine.
Next Question: We’ve been seeing structured suits, vests, and other masculine items parading around as womenswear for a number of months. But what do you think? Tell us, is Menswear as Womenswear In, or is it Out? Cast your vote on the sidebar!

We asked: Are Colorful Handbags In or Out?
You said: They’re In! A full 76% are all for these brightly colored bags, while only 5% consider them Out. The remaining 19%, however, believe they’re On the Way Out.
Omiru’s take: Colorful handbags are a great way to punch up your outfit, especially in a season so enamored of neutrals. We can’t think of a better way to add oomph to a fresh white summery dress, or even the standard jeans and tee combo. But make sure to pick a color you love…and one that makes a Statement.
Next Question: According to Women’s Wear Daily, this fall is the season of the dress. We’re particularly partial to the classic wrap dress. But what do you think? Tell us, are Wrap Dresses In, or are they Out? Cast your vote on the sidebar!

We asked: Are Horizontal Stripes In or Out?
You said: They’re (barely) in. 56% of you are all for the horizontal stripes, but significant chunks of Omiru’s population think they’re Out (19%) and On the Way Out (25%).
Omiru’s take: While horizontal stripes are still In, they certainly aren’t universally popular. Perhaps this hesitancy relates to the conventional fashion wisdom that declares that, like the camera that adds 10 pounds, "horizontal stripes make you look fat." Our tip for suiting up in these stripes? Opt for thin stripes, which appear more like an all-over fabric pattern, instead of the wide horizontal stripes that draw the eye from side to side.
Next Question: Colorful handbags in shades of sunflower, grass, and aqua are adorning the arms of fashion mavens. But what do you think? Should we beware of basic brown and black and have our handbags embrace these rainbow colors? Tell us, are Colorful Handbags In, or are they Out? Cast your

We asked: Are Short Shorts In or Out?
You said: As the end of summer comes closer, short shorts will see their welcome fade away. Almost half (45%) think they’re already Out, and another 21% believe they’re On the Way Out. Only 34% consider Short Shorts to be In.
Omiru’s take: Short shorts saw their revival in Jessica Simpson’s The Dukes of Hazzard; they weren’t meant to last. Enjoy them while the weather is still steamy, but opt for something with a bit more coverage come fall. In short, catch them while you can!
