You Said: Yes to Hip Length Blazers

asos-boyfriend-blazer_011909We asked: Would you wear Hip Length Blazers?

You said:  Yes to Hip Length Blazers, with a 61% to 39% vote.

Style tip? Shrunken blazers are great for elongating your legs and making you look taller, but long, hip length blazers can be more of a figure flattery challenge.  They’re a natural on short waisted women who want to elongate their torso, but for the rest of us, they can make our legs look shorter.  How do you wear the long, hip length blazer for maximum figure flattery?  Choose a blazer with a high armhole and a close fit.  Pair it with a narrow bottom, such as skinny pants or leggings and a miniskirt.

Next question: Wide belts are great for defining your waistline, but they also make a strong statement.  Tell us, would you wear a Wide Belt?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

You Said: No to Military Pants

omiru-poll-result-no-to-military-pants_011109

ae-military-pant_011109We asked: Would you wear Military Pants?

You said:  No to Military Pants, with a 65% to 35% vote.

Style tip? While we don’t advocate camouflage pants as a part of your core wardrobe, we do recommend taking a cue from military men and keeping a pair of rugged casual pants on hand.  Not only are they appropriate for many daytime occasions, but they’re also handy for balancing out an overly feminine top. Pair your military pants with oversized sweaters for a chic outfit for running errands, with a ruffly top for lunch with the girls, and a blousy knit for a day of sightseeing on vacation.

Next question: Shrunken blazers have been popular for the last few years, but what do you think about the opposite–the long, hip length blazer jacket?  Tell us, would you wear the Hip Length Blazer?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

You Said: Yes to Shawl Collar Sweaters

Chelsea DB Shawl CardiganWe asked: Would you wear Shawl Collar Sweaters?

You said:  Yes to Shawl Collar Sweaters, with a 69% to 31% vote.

Style tip? Shawl collars provide an elegant twist to the everyday cardigan or pullover sweater.  The style is very American Classic, so it naturally works with other All American pieces: tailored button-down shirts, tweed skirts, and blazers.  But you can also mix things up and pair it with edgier pieces: skinny pants, asymmetrical skirts, and biker jackets.

Next question: Military pants are an interesting casual pant alternative to jeans.  But what do you think?   Tell us, would you wear Military Pants?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Lace SkirtWe asked: Would you wear Lace?

You said:  Yes to Lace, with an overwhelming 77% to 23% vote.

Style tip? No matter what your personal style, there’s a lace for you.  If your style is flirty and feminine, try a light colored lace blouse or skirt paired with other light, bright colors.  If your style has a harder edge, try a dark colored lace paired with tougher fabrics.

Next question: Shawl Collar Sweaters are all over the place–for both men and women.  But what do you think?   Tell us, would you wear a Shawl Collar Sweater?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Omiru Poll Result: Yes to Patent Leather

Mossimo Vergie Peep-Toe Patent Leather BootiesWe asked: Would you wear Patent Leather?

You said:  Yes to Patent Leather, with an overwhelming 67% to 33% vote.

Style tip? Patent leather is absolutely classic on shoes, but you can also try patent leather on other accessories–such as belts or handbags.  And if you’re even more adventurous, try patent leather in a bright color…yellow, green, or even red.  But if you’re just looking to dip your toes into the trend, try a pair of patent leather booties in basic black.

Next question: Lace can be romantic, but it can also be edgy–depending on how it’s worn.  But what do you think?   Tell us, would you wear Lace?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

You Said: Yes to Velvet

You Said: Yes to Velvet

Urban Renewal Velvet BlazerWe asked: Would you wear Velvet?

You said:  Yes to Velvet, with a close 55%-45% vote.

Style tip? Sure, Velvet may be one of the most classic cold weather fabrics, but it’s not for everyone.  Velvet is what’s known as a "pile" fabric, with fibers that extend upward.  While this "pile" makes velvet somewhat warmer to wear, its thickness, combined with its natural sheen, makes it somewhat difficult to wear.  Our favorite way to wear velvet is on a blazer.  But mix things up and try a blazer in a different silhouette.  Try a long, hip-length style over a cocktail dress (as pictured) or a blouse and high waisted pants. Or try a cropped style, which works great with a high-waisted skirt…during the summer, a long, flowy sundress.

Next question: Patent leather is a classic fabric for shoes and other accessories.  But what do you think?   Tell us, would you wear Patent Leather?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Trend Alert: Chunky Knit Half Sleeve Sweaters

There’s nothing quite like a chunky knit sweater to keep you warm in style.  But while we love chunky knits, we don’t actually want to look chunky wearing them.  How do you wear a thick knit without looking chunky?  Minimize the bulk of your heavy knit sweater by showing a bit of skin with a partial sleeve.  Here’s our favorite chunky knit half sleeve sweaters, at all price points:

You Said: Yes to Headbands

You Said: Yes to Headbands

Spunky Feather HeadbandWe asked: Would you wear Headbands?

You said:  Overwhelmingly - Yes to Headbands, which were voted in 74% to 26%.

Style tip? Gossip girl’s Leighton Meester may have single-headedly launched the modern headband movement, but you don’t have to be an Upper East Sider (or a Hollywood starlet) to wear the trend.  If you’re unsure about headbands, why not give them a try with a solid colored style with a thin band?  If you’re feeling more adventurous, we recommend going after this trend head-on with an ornamented headband.  Think brooch-style jewels, oversized silk flowers, dainty ribbons, or even spunky feathers.  After all, bold is beautiful.

Next question: Velvet is a classic cold-weather fabric, but its sheen makes it somewhat difficult to wear.  But what do you think?   Tell us, would you wear Velvet?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

You Said: Yes to Fair Isle Sweaters

You Said: Yes to Fair Isle Sweaters

Ecote Fairisle Open CardiganWe asked: Would you wear Fair Isle Sweaters?

You said:  Yes to Fair Isle Sweaters, which were voted in 55% to 45%.

Style tip? The multi-color knitted patterns characteristic of Fair Isle sweaters always remind us of Winter.  They’re perfect for a ski date in the mountains, but they also work for a day in the city.  Juxtapose the rustic Fair Isle sweater against a sophisticated skirt and a chic winter coat.  If you dare, try mixing textures - the knit sweater and a sequined skirt would make for a glamourous combination.

Next question: Headbands have been a celebrity style staple since the premiere of Gossip Girl.  But what do you think?   Tell us, would you wear a Headband?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!
