Style tip?  Spring 2009 is characterized by selective volume - on slouchy pants, poufy sleeves, and and bubble shaped skirts.  The paperbag waistline is a fresh take on selective volume - plus the naturally high waistline can visually elongate the leg and make you look taller (or allow you to wear cropped pants).

What do you think?  Would you wear pants with a paperbag waistline?  Share your thoughts in the comments!

My impression is that this style can work well for pear-shaped women, such as I, because it sort of camouflages that area. I see tulip skirts the same way. Is this accurate?

I don’t care for oddly shaped pants, whether they’re skinny jeans or slouchy pants. I think I’d skip this look. Is it just me or do these outfits look 80’s-ish?

Stephanie – this style works best for women with wide shoulders and narrow hips. Same with tulip skirts. It adds volume at the hips, and this volume will help visually balance out a wide shoulderline.

Mimi – The Issac Mizrahi look in particular has a whiff of the 80s.
