Shopping Guide: Botkier for Target
July 29th, 2008
In 2003, Monica Botkier launched her namesake line of handbags. Botkier bags instantly gained cult status among fashionistas for their mix of luxury and functionality–with a downtown edge. A favorite of Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, and Heidi Klum, pricey Botkier bags are usually found at high end department stores and boutiques. Think Barneys, Neiman Marcus, and Fred Segal. But now, five years after the birth of Botkier bags, you can get them for under $50. Here’s our three favorite bags from the Botkier for Target collection:
Botkier for Target Satchel in Gray Python | $39.99 at Target
Botkier for Target Hobo in White Python | $39.99 at Target
Botkier for Target Clutch in Gray Python | $19.99 at Target

I’m not one of those people who complains that “omg why isn’t Target offering me a real genuine leather designer bag for $50, this bag won’t last for 40 years as an investment piece” I get taht the whole idea is to get a cheap trendy piece with a designer name that you’ll throw out in two months.
I actually have that last clutch in the magenta colour and it’s really cute. However whatever the material they made they used on this line for the Python bags is just horrible. It feels paper thin and is crinkly. This line is seriously lacking the quality of materials that were present in the Devi Kroell and Loeffler and Randall lines. I think I vastly prefer Target’s own line of limited edition handbags, which are generally cute, trendy, cheaper and won’t fall apart in 2 months.

I need to check out these handbags in person. I just ordered a Gryson for Target bag since they’re 75% off online now. And I went crazy when they had the Rafe for Target bags last year–I bought about 6 of them! Great bags.

Thanks for the post. I had been eying bag 1 for a while now. It was a good reminder to go ahead and buy it before it sold out.
