You Said: Yes to Vests
July 7th, 2008
We asked: Would you wear a Vest?
You said: 60% of you say Yes to Vests.
Style tip? For men, vests are a great way to gain statesman-like style points. For women, vests are one of our favorite pieces for the menswear-as-womenswear trend. Our favorite way to wear the vest? Wear it with a feminine piece, like a ruffled skirt.
Next question: Big shoulders were on display on the runway, along with other menswear-as-womenswear favorites (including the vest). But what do you think? Tell us, would you wear tops or jackets with big shoulders? Cast your vote on the sidebar!

I was at first skeptical of the vest trend, but I’m totally buying into it now and think it’s definitely here to stay for the fall. I was shopping at one of my favorite websites, Goldyn, and saw that they just added such a wearable piece to transition into fall with–Mint’s wrap vest, it’s adorable and is a unique take on the vest trend!

I always feel like a waiter when I wear a vest.

I never know what to wear under a vest, except for a white blouse – but I don’t wear white blouses, they’re a bit formal for my workplace. Is it ok to wear a vest over a t-shirt or something else?

Yes, it is definitely ok to wear a vest over a t-shirt–or another equally casual item. The vest over white blouse look works, but it’s formal and a little too literal translation of the menswear as womenswear trend.
The fun with vests is dressing them up with something a bit unexpected–like the t-shirt.
Any other ideas for what to pair a vest with?

I, too was skeptical about the vest for a while – until I gave it a try one day while shopping at H&M. Being a large-chested, large waisted woman, I found that dark-coloured vest are wonderful waist-whittlers! I normally wear it with a v-neck, tie-front top or a button-down patterned shirt paired with jeans or a casual skirt. Finally! A summer alternative to blazers!

Great idea to pair the masculine vest with a feminine tie-neck top. Love it!
