You Said: Maybe to Gladiator Sandals
July 28th, 2008
We asked: Would you wear Gladiator Sandals?
You said: Maybe. This vote was pretty close, with 52% of you saying No to Gladiator Sandals and the remaining 48% saying Yes.
Style tip? True to their name, gladiator sandals are by nature a somewhat aggressive shoe. They bring a bit of an edge to an otherwise neutral outfit. We love pairing gladiator sandals with pretty skirts and dresses to add a bit of a masculinity to an otherwise feminine outfit.
Next question: Remember when peasant tops were the It shirt of summer a few years ago? Looks like they may be making a (small) comeback. But what do you think? Tell us, would you
wear Peasant Tops? Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Honestly. I’m not surprised a little over said No to the sandals. I myself was shocked when the trend headed my way. All in shop windows I would see the sandals and sigh; how could I wear those and be cute at the same time. But to add masculinity to the outfit, I don’t disagree there.
They’re nice, but I don’t see people trudging around in them a lot.

Totally agree, Kiwi. Gladiator sandals are certainly not for everyone. They’re good for adding a bit of spice to your wardrobe, but they’re not going to be your everyday shoe.

I don’t care for the gladiator look at all. I agree with Kiwi- how could I be cute?
If I did wear them, I’d get a stiletto heel and pair them with something very simple and chic, a no-frills, sleek outfit– a pencil skirt suit with some bold jewelry maybe.
The flats with the leg-bondage aren’t for me. But your Target pick gives a hint of the look without going overboard.

They could be cute, so long as they aren’t “leg bondage” as you so aptly put it I personally prefer the “gladiator lite” look – the hint of the trend without the full on “leg bondage.” The pair pictured above would work with a nice light pencil skirt…or even a pair of linen pants. Very versatile.

Ha! I just bought those sandals for $5 on clearance at Target. I love them!
